WHAT DOES G4S DO TO PALESTINIAN PEOPLE?

Maintain the occupation: G4S has a history of facilitating military checkpoints, illegal settlements and prisons which detain thousands of political prisoners.

Support inhumane treatment and torture: G4S owned subsidiary trains Israeli Police in house raids, interrogation, target shooting and undercover operations, aimed exclusively at Palestinians. Police contribute to the arrest and imprisonment of Palestinians without due process, torture of prisoners and extrajudicial killings.

Facilitate ethnic cleansing: G4S trained police facilitate the illegal annexation of East Jerusalem, through their active role in the eviction of Palestinians and the demolition of homes and entire villages.

Provide equipment to monitor Israeli apartheid: G4S subsidiary, AMAG Technologies, supplies surveillance in Jerusalem that monitor areas where Palestinians are denied free access.

Violate international law: A G4S subsidiary trains Israeli police within a settlement that is illegal under international law. Police training practices constantly lead to the violation of international treaties for human rights and the rights of children.

I would like your support in helping end any contracts any government departments have signed with the private prisons and security multinational G4S.

G4S has ongoing complicity in global and national human rights violations. Specifically my strong concern is in relation to its treatment of Palestinians in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

G4S has been subject to an international boycott campaign since 2010. G4S previously provided support for the Israeli prison system. This system has detained 7,000 Palestinian political prisoners, many who are held without trial. Most are subject to torture and inhumane treatment including over 300 children. Palestinian child prisoners have been tried by military courts which carry a 99.9% conviction rate.

As well, G4S provided equipment for the Israeli military at checkpoints which severely restricts the movement of Palestinians preventing them from accessing employment, education, medical services and their farming lands.

In December 2016, G4S declared that it would sell its Israeli business. This decision was linked directly to the success of the global initiative which included a petition supported by over 1.8 million people.

However, G4S failed to remove their entire operation from occupied land and still maintains a contract with illegal Israeli settlement profiteer. G4S is the co-owner of Policity, a joint venture with real-estate corporation Shikun & Binui, an Israeli company involved in settlements which operates a police training center for Israeli police in Jerusalem. This centre trains Israeli police to enforce a brutal occupation, particularly in East Jerusalem.

G4S is also the target of international campaigns because of its involvement in youth incarceration, migrant detention and deportation. You may be aware that G4S’ contract on Manus Island for the Australian Government was terminated in 2014 after the death of a 23-year-old asylum seeker, Reza Barati and when evidence of its human rights abuses and lack of proper risk assessments and protocol emerged. The Australian Government replaced G4S with Transfield Services as a direct response to the human rights abuses that were reported about G4S.

In another case G4S caused the death of Aboriginal man, Mr. Ward, while he was being transported to prison in Western Australia. G4S pleaded guilty and was fined $285,000 for its involvement in this death.

We request that you support us in the parliament to have this government follow the Australian government’s example and cease any contracts with G4S. Supporting G4S decreases an MPs' ethical credentials and credibility with the general public.
